Feeling of fatigue

Completed 5km in 35min 36secs. Probably a personal best. But really feel fatigue, physically and mentally. Probably due to work demands and stress.

Some of my colleagues are suffering "Compliance fatigue" and today my office got 3 different sets of auditors present, the External Auditors, the Regional Auditors and the Internal Auditors. That's just auditors. In addition, everyone still got to run/continue operations and fill in many internal (compliance) checklists. Less than a month and I have already completed one checklist and did risk rating for another checklist in addition to my normal work :S

Strong internal control and compliance culture is good for the company and everyone, but I do wonder how it can be balanced so that staff don't get burned out with compliance requirements in the age of SOX.

Fam + Self Pace Run

Managed to get 5km done. First 2.25km was a Fam Run, nice and slow. Completed the entire 5km in 43mins which ain't bad.

Actually, just as I completed, the rains came pouring down at 6:30pm+. Phew, close call. Happy to get the run done w/o getting caught in downpour.

Sniffles

Woke up this morning at 5:30am+. Wanted to run but the runny nose put paid to that. :(

Can't wake up to run

I was woken at 7:35am by my maid. By then wife had completed her 2km morning run. Too sleepy. Had been an exhausting week of travelling, conferences and work.
Glad the weekend is here (though I brought back a lot of office work to read up on - if I can find the time) <_<

Chap Goh Mei Run

Ya, me managed to do a 5km Chap Goh Mei run in 37:36. Ran too fast cos was anxious to go home for dinner. Windy day for a run this evening. :)

Heard Singapore cliched the Youth Olympics. There must be a noisy party down at the padang celebrating the cliching of the YOG.

Registering for Saucony 100Plus PAssion Run 2008

Tuesday, 19 Feb 2008
My flight from Bangkok delayed and landed at 9:50pm. It rolled on the ground for 15 mins from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 and finally Terminal 2. Sigh. Reached home was 10:35pm.

Me signed up for 10km Open just before midnight of 19 Feb 2008.

+++++++++

Wednesday, 20 Feb 2008
Asked wife if she would like to join me for 10km run. Told her the date and she said ok. Yippee, straight away this morning, I registered her (& paid of course).

So, it will be a 'couple walk-n-jog'. We had our 1st walkathon at the Heartstrings 6km walk last year. Now, a 10km run at East Coast coming up in June.

Dangerous drivers

As my 5km route means crossing a few traffic lights, I've encountered a few life-&-death experiences.

Today as in somedays, as I cross a traffic light with the flashing green man, some driver will turn at a traffic light and pass in front of me or just behind me as the green man is still flashing. *Grrrrr!!!!!*

I mean, like this morning, after the blue lorry turned right just barely missing my nose, he had to stop at the next traffic light (near the Shell petrol station) which was red anyway. SO, what's the rush to turn anyway??? Ain't gonna make it across the next junction anyway! My life (& that of other runners and pedestrians) are at stake! Some of these drivers should be jailed for life and the keys thrown away.

1st 10km in 2008

Dun know why but automatically woke up at 5:35am. So, decided to go for a run.

Started my run at 6:20am wondering if I should do 5km or 10km. It was windy and cold. Started with slight runny nose. But dark. So, no one can see me. :)

Well, completed my 5km round in 38:14. Decided to go another 5km round and see whether I can do my 10km. If not, just 'kia-kia'. Walked the 6th km. The rest was jogged and walk. But completed my 10km in 1:17.

So happy. Rewarded myself with 100+ and a big plate of mee. No ice-cream yet (last night already indulged on one) :p

Sad. . .no run

Left office late. Mind still groggy after my late night rtn from KL last night after 1 day 'whirlwind' orientation and today, the flurry of things to do and discussions in office.

Walking from office to MRT just now, I felt mentally exhausted and tired. So, decided not to run. (I remember once I ran on my regular night run and felt such struggle as I was mentally tired but not physically tired. Just cannot focus and the run was such a struggle). Besides, tonight I reached home 8pm and would mean running at about 8:20pm and eating dinner after 9:30pm. Too late, decided to skip the run, albeit very reluctantly.

Now, when do I slot in a run? Tomorrow night, go someone's house for 'bai nian' + 'kam pua mee' and Sunday 6pm flight to Bangkok for 2 day regional conference.

Thinking how to slot in a run else it will be mid-next week earliest. :(

My standard 5km route

In case anyone keep wondering what is this 5km route that I usually run. The link is as follows: http://www.mapmyrun.com/run/singapore/singapore/702905743.

Not sure why the distance markers below is for 2km and 4km only instead of every km??)

Decided to run

Was wondering if I should run after yesterday's walk and run.

Well, reach home 7:22pm. Had a drink (mixed 1/3 100+ and 2/3 plain water) and then waited 15 minutes (with some stretching) before going down for my run. Initially aimed to do the 5km route. Less than 1km, already felt pain (unlike stitch, as strangely it was on my left side, like just where the stomach is). Around 3km into it, the right side felt something of a stitch. So, walk, walk, jog, stop, stretch, extend arms, try all sorts of stretching!!)

Anyway, after about 4km, managed to just run (w/o much discomfort).
After the 5km completed in 39mins, felt okay and decided to just run the 2km loop in front of my house.
Finished the 7km in 53mins (Ya, negative split for the last 2km, which proves the amount of walking in the 1st 4 km due to the "2" sided stitches).

Quite glad I put it this evening's run as Wed night got office CNY dinner and Thursday outstation for business trip. Wonder if I can run on Friday evening (Sat got pai nian and makan :p). Just see how it goes this Friday :)

Chinese New Year Eve Run

I had a Christmas Eve run last year and today, I just completed my Chinese New Year Eve run.

5km in 38:45. Not fast but still felt really breathless. Either it is the blazing afternoon sun (so hot until my saliva turned thick and sticky) or it's becos I have not run for over 10 days. Probably a little of both :D

Now it is time to jiak :P

CNY Eve Weather . . .

The weather so nice and cool at 12:50pm. Wonder whether should run later? :))

10 days?

jodan PM me and said it's been 10 days since he has done any exercise.

After counting from the Banana Relay on 26 Jan to today, 5 Feb, I replied that it's been 10 days since I have done any running too. Ha ha ha ha.

So, we're both in the same boat. LOL

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch!

Wah. . .my butt is really in pain, my calves, just above the ankles are also in pain. (Some more my ex-boss email me to exercise). Just walking to the MRT station from office was a challenge just now (10mins+ down Cross Street to Chinatown MRT). One of my CPU members was spot on yesterday when she said it was the butt that will feel the pain.

Quite the jialat. Hope, it goes away quick. CNY just round the corner. The good news I found out today is that my office close the whole day on Wednesday, 6 Feb 2008 instead of 1/2 day for some other companies :)

No run but Badminton with CPU

Today my CPU had our 1st badminton outing at my CC. 2 weeks ago booked both courts for 2 hours.

I wore my Brookes control running shoes since don't have badminton shoes. Day before, spent $67 buying 2 badminton rackets from World of Sports. Never realise "Head" sells rackets. RSH sells Wilson badminton rackets. All sell some types of Yonex rackets but expensive.

Haven't played badminton for 20 years or thereabouts. Must have been more or less my secondary school days. Worse still is the challenge of teaching my kids to serve so that they can 'play'.

Now at night, I feeling my butt, just below the base of the spine is aching. Must have been all the jumping. And perhaps using shoes with insufficient cushioning.

My left shoulder was already aching this afternoon from the use of my left shoulder in stroke play. Haven't swung my left shoulder for racket games for just too many years.

Wonder how bad will it be tomorrow? Someone in my CPU said it will usually be felt on the next day and sure will have some pain since we're using different muscles in playing badminton compared to jogging or gym workouts. Just got to wait and see.

Not run since Banana Relay

Have not run since my 9km relay on Saturday, 26 January 2008. Already almost 6 days no running. Either this is slacking or I'm pretending that I'm still recovering from last week's record mileage. Ha Ha Ha Ha. Who am I kidding?

Forwarded to above to TY and JL. JL said he is running 15km. TY said she feel like giving it a miss; but will sign for the 15km if both JL and me signed for the 15km.

Told TY I am thinking of going but whether 10km or 15km will depend on my current running mileage. Will let her know later date.
