Mizuno Wave Run 2008

Very exhausting for me but I have a PB. Completed the 'announced' 10.3km in 1:12 (6.99min.km, an avg sub-7min/km pace). AM very happy though I'm quite sure I cheong too must cause I had a nap, ate a lot when I came back and still feel not so well.

I was with Kayano's bro-in-law and I met Jodan at Bedok Reservoir as well as in the stands after the event. I thought saw TLR wearing the white sgRunners tee before the event. I wasn't looking out for sgRunners and after reading the earlier posts, I thought most would give it a miss. I left by 9:20am. Did not bring any spare change of clothes or any bag. I think I got chilled by the wind and in the air-cond taxi.

I think Mizuno (VGO) have redeemed themselves well. Can see there is lots of improvements and the effort has paid off. Distance markers (I only saw the 4km, 6km, 7km, 9km signs) I think are fairly accurate based on my 7min/km pace. I have very little complains. The route was fine. I am used to running on pavements (even Sundown and Real Run had pavements), the gravel at Bedok Reservoir was kind on the legs, the weather held up (despite threatening earlier on), the less than 8,000 participants means not that many people (this morning they annouced 5,000+ and they still accepted on the spot registration), 2 water stops along the 10km route and I like the running vest (better than the Adidas SCSM 07 vest that gives me nipple abrasions).

As of posting now, I had napped twice, morning and afternoon. But, now, I still have headache :(

Slow then too fast

I started real slow. Then don't know why after 500m I ran faster and faster. 2km in 14mins, 3km in <20mins. Getting more and more breatheless. Nose was a little congested. My chest was panting and heaving, had a stitch but could not exercise the control to slow down.

4.52km: 32min:11secs.
Pace: Avg 7:07min/km / 8.43km/hr

Morning 7km run with LSL

Ran 7km with LSL running the first 4.5km at a >8min/km pace.

Completed the 7km run in 52:48 which means I really pia the last 2km considering I took 40mins for the first 5km.

The blue Mizuno wave run vest is really nice, nice texture and comfy.

Afternoon, it started raining at 4:30pm. No run.

Finally pain-free

Finally, today Thursday I'm more or less 100% pain-free.

Did thought of running some short distance up to 5km today. But 1 meeting ended late and I left office at 6:45pm. I think the guy who was chairing the meeting missed his i-Run, maybe not.

So, it will be weekend run for me. Tomorrow night is office D&D.
Got to collect the Mizuno Wave Run race pack this weekend...

Pain

After 3 days, I still a bit of pain above my right butt, around where my right kidney is. My right knee and calf is healing fine. All due to running just 12km. :(

I think half-timer is right about the damage to the spine and legs when one has to suddenly stop running due to a driver that breezed past a pedestrian crossing. Sigh.....a bit worried about the impact on spine due to what happened to kayano. . .

Finally > 10km

Have not run 10km since PAssion run on 8 June, not to mention >10km. But I really wanted to do it quite badly.

Well, I started slow and picked up speed. Mindful I wanted to do at least 10km. At 6:16am, I started. Completed the first 7km loop and started on the 5km loop. At 10km mark, I managed in 1:14:47 which was pretty 'fast' (based on my standard). Finally, I finished the 12km in good time and happy I ran this morning. Slight -ve split and not cramp but battled stitches along the way.

Must say I nearly got run over by a gold colored sedan this morning. Was about the cross a pedestrian crossing. I glanced over my right shoulder, about 30degree glance. Didn't see any car and continued towards the pedestrian crossing. Suddenly a car went pass right in front of me, slightly more than 1 arms length away. I jammed brake by planting my right foot down on the slight slope leading down to the pedestrian corssing, the car continued left w/o stopping at all. #$$%^%**^!! Silly driver. Does he not realise it was a pedestrian crossing and there was a runner going down and almost reaching the road!!!! Sometimes, I wonder if my life is worth it. If I was a faster runner, would probably have been hurt.

Apart from above, was happy with my run. My Mrs started on her own at 7pm and did 6km. A great effort.

10km: 1:14:47 (7.50min/km)
12km: 1:28:20 (7.33min/km)

Standard 5km loop

Ran 5km. Not sure why I can't seem to make myself start at a leisure pace of 8min/km. I'm like dipping slightly below 7min/km on the 1st km and by the time I hit the 2nd km, I feel tired out. Decided not to extend another 2km to 7km. Stopped at 5km.

5km: 35:20 (Approx 7.1min/km)

Stopped at 9km

Ya, stopped at 9km. Started too quick a pace at 4:45pm, the sun was still high and it was warm, little breeze and I got drained out. Could have done another 1 or 2km but also had a dinner appointment and needed to cool down, shower and leave home. Not much time. But overall, am quite happy with the run and time.

5km - 38:++
7km - 53:00 (avg. 7.57 min/km)
9km - 1:06:00 (avg 7.33 min/km)

35:29 for 5km

Don't know why. But I ran faster than I had planned. I decided to cut my planned 7km to 5km so that I can recover in time to leave home before 8:20pm as got 8:30pm cpu meeting.

35:29 = 5km. (7.04min/km). Slightly over 7min/km. :)

Shortened

Got back quite early today. Went for a jog at an easy pace. At the 6km mark, I planned to extend the 7km loop by 2 - 3 km since I was feeling fine. Then, it started to rain.

Decided not to run in the rain. Finished my 7km in 53:29 (7.64min/km). Reasonably ok time and still had some energy left. :)
