Post SBR Recovery Run

Didn't run for a week after SBR. Leg and calves felt bad. But also had CPA SME seminars on 3 nights, CP night.

So, 6:35am started my planned 5-6km run. Bad news is after 1km, my right ankle felt painful each time I land on my right foot. A long way to go but decided I will do the 5km since I already passed the 2km loop turn-off. Otherwise, I might have done 2km or 4km (2km x 2).

The pain on the ankle persisted till I finished my 5km in 35mins and 34 secs. Slightly over 7min/km which means I was going too fast. I hope the ankle thing is temporary. I want to continue jogging.

Singapore Bay Run 2008 10km

My first 10km Singapore Bay Run (2007 was 6km Fun Run).

It was a painful experience. Had not run for 2 weeks before due to foot and ankle injury. This blog post is 1 week post-event so won't write too much.

It was a cool and overcast day. Started 5 mins early. Flagged off by Minister Teo Chee Hean. A lot of people. The route was very crowded. A lot of not so fast joggers in front of me, some fast army guys behind me overtaking and elbowing me and others whilst overtaking.

It was tough, running up the Marina Boulevard, onto ECP then going down Rochor Road, making the U-turn. At 5km I felt out of breathe (lack of fitness due to no running for 2 weeks). The last 3km was a bit mental endurance to finish. The good thing was that there were route markers at every km from KM 1 to Km 9.

First time I crossed the finish line I retched and felt like vomitting. Even after bending down, I felt the taste of 100Plus coming up. Nothing to vomit as my light cereal breakfast was at 5:20am. It was horrid experience. PLus the pain at my inner right ankle. My calves felt stiff, my thighs above both knees felt tight. Bending down to untie the champion chip also not easy. Then had to climb up wooden platform and down a wooden ramp into the muddy padang to return champion chip for the finishers' medal.

I was so occupied with my horrible retching and untying the chip, I didn't stop my watch. By the time I did, it was 1:14+.

The official chip time was 1:12:48 (about 7.3min/km). Officially my best 10km finishing time (apart from Mizuno Wave Run where I clocked 1:12 also but for 10.3km). Considering my lack of run fitness and pain to my legs, it was an extremely good time.

The finishers' medal is nice, better looking tan the SCSM 07 one. The Tee shirt design better than the cartoonish ones in previous 2 years.

Post event, managed to joined the sgRunners for a group photo, thanks to terry who pointed me to the right place as I was previously waiting at the monument opposite Raffles City. Was introduced to quincymx. Spoke to Acleong, cokiee, terry.

Pre-SBR

This is scary. No run for 2 weeks before SBR 10km. My toe can still feel slight discomfort.

Today reach home before 6:30pm, had thought of clocking 4km. Well, it rained. Tuesday, it drizzled. Wed and Thurs was on seminar. Oh well. . . .

Hope Sunday SBR works out fine for me.

Pain

I now look back and regret the 1km dash yesterday. Esp. after the pain around the ankle after Saturday moring NDP run.

This morning I felt my ankle uncomfortable as I walked from home to mrt and to office. This evening, I felt my inner shin muscles aching. As SBR 10km is next Sunday, 2 weeks time, I may lay off running this week completely, depending how the leg feels. Don't want to end up crippled after SBR 10km in <2weeks time.

1km dash

I dashed 1km from home to Sengkang Sports and Recreation Club.

Only 2 bikes at home. I had a head start for ~300m. Inevitably, bikes caught up with me and from being chased, I was chasing the bike. About 6mins dash which left me breathless when I reached the pool entrance.

9.5km Sengkang Loop

Mapped a 9.5km loop round the boundary of Sengkang Estate. Will try it out soon. :)

National Day 2008 Run

It was a 11.50km run. Cut short due to injury. 1:27 (7.34min/km). A bit too fast after I started real slow as my 1st km was ard 8.5min/km. Breathless. :(

Oh ya. The injury happened when I was running near the right edge of the pavement and my right foot slipped into the grass patch. Obviously, there was some strain to my ankle tendons/ligaments. Towwards end of run, felt my ankle. No pain from bone, just ligaments. SO, should recover fully in a few days.

A slow yet not easy run

Don't know why. Haven't run in a week since Mizuno Wave Run. Was so tired, I slept in the bus back from Hougang to Sengkang. Came home, slept again. Woke up at 4pm. 5:30pm, I started my slow, slow run (feel like boh lat).

I clocked my 1st km at like 8.5min when I reached Anchorvale CC. Anyway, told myself, just to continue slow. Man, every traffic light also have to stop. :(

Finally, completed my 9mins in 1 hour, 15mins, 10 secs (Avg 7.55min/km) . Avg pace of 7.58km/hr. Must have speeded up the last 2 km.

I ended my run by walking to COld Storage at basement of Compass Point and bought some things. :)
