Was worried for sure. 3 days back can't even do 3km and still felt lots of knee pain after resting a week after Real Run. Today I reach home by 6:45pm. Decided to change and go run a 5km. Not too far, do slow and see how the knee holds up.
Thank God, the left knee held up. But ah.....right knee or rather just above the right knee pain after 3km. Dunno to laugh or to cry. Already do slow, slow. 1st km in 8min 10secs, 5km mark in ~40mins and 5.99km in 47min 30 secs (7min:55secs/km).
See route below (click on the button). I stopped at the finish point cos after that I went to the basement of Compass Point to (a) go toilet for some water and (b) go Cold Storage to buy something.
Well, hope for the best. Sunday evening see can run or not. Saturday is busy day. Little girl's pre-school graduation. :)

A cool pic
New Balance Real Run 2008 - 0.6km of Beach

Aiyo, actually the first time I saw this photo, I thought I looked so cool and relaxed jogging on the beach under the HOT sun without breaking a sweat. Sigh, pictures can be so misleading sometimes :D

I now know there is a name to the ligament that I feel pain. It's the outer left knee and the ligament is known as Lateral collateral ligament (LCL).

GE Womens 10km 2008
Well, Mrs did very well.
She completed 10km in 1:16:40. An excellent result in her 2nd 10km. Her 1st 10km, the PAssion Run was completed in 1:24. So, a good improvement of ~8mins, about 5 months after the 1st 10km. The periodic running helps and if she regularly keeps running, her stamina will improve and she should be faster than me over 10km and even distances beyond since she don't have health challenges like me. Next up is SCSM 10km on 7 December 2008.
I mapped the 10km route.

My NB Real Run 2008 Official photos
At Aviation Road, the last 2km of road, under the HOT sun towards the Changi Exhibition Centre (CEC)
The last few metres to the finishing line.

Crossing the finishing mats! Looking better than I was feeling in the photo (the teeth was showing!). At that point, ankle and knee pain was getting real bad (it would get worse later that day).

Day after NBRR
Jialat.
My left knee is in really bad shape. You know it is bad when you walk with your right foot out and dragged your left foot forward because you are trying not to bend your left knee. While walking at the Dhoby ghaut interchange to the N-S line, I had to will myself not to shed tears and absorb the pain. Going down a flight of staircase at Raffles Place MRT is a pain and already tried to go down on my right foot and place the left fot gently down. Can feel the tightness. This is worse than my SBR 08 run and probably the worse after effects I've ever felt after a run, and it's just 10km. Sigh.
After SCSM 2008, it is a month's rest minimum. I don't want to be wheelchair bound.

New Balance Real Run 2008
I woke up real early, before 3am when I set my phone alarm to go off at 4:30am. Dunno know why, but it means I got up real early. Did do my QT though. :)
With sun block, my shades, my cap and arm pouch with Nokia Hp, left house at 5:20am. Spencer picked me from Compass Point taxi stand around 5:35am. Reached the car park real early, still dark. But the car park filled up fast. I saw Terry for a short while. When Spencer went to meet Terry and the others, I walked to the starting place. I first went into the Exhibition Hall to use the toilet. The queue took over 10mins (some wanted to use the stalls instead of urinal).
Then I walked around before going out. I grabbed a cup of ice mountain mineral water. Then I did my leg and shoulder stretches/ I went to start line at 7am. Ripley came by with Renoh in the 15km line and took a photo of me. After that, I lost track since most sgRunners were doing 15km.

The announcer and the banners keep reminding us what REAL stands for.
R - Regular
E - Exercise
A - Active
L - Lifestyle
Assoc Prof Ho Peng Kee flaged off the 10km runners at 7:30am. I ran under the Start Arch at the 40sec mark.

4km of trail, some of which was quite sandy, some of which were hard but dry with lots of uneven ground and holes. This alarmed me as I was afraid of spraining my ankle.
After the trail it was back to the road. It is great to get primary/secondary students to be marshaller however there was a stretch just after the trail where there is a student every 10-15metres in the middle of the road... I am not sure what they are there for...look more like a middle divider between on-going and returning runners. I can see that these students are not enjoying themselves.... under the hot sun without a cap or something and they literally sat on the road, not knowing what to do. The other students at other locations are well-placed and they cheered the runners on. So I think the organisers really need to think through where to 'deploy' the student marshaller.
This year, I ran on the beach. Near the water edge and the samd was firm enough. Good experience. :)
The last 2 km was like last year - HOT, VERY HOT. Good thing I had my cap, shades and sun block in place. I just kept my eye on the road and continued running.
I finished with Gun clock time of 1:14:10. If I minus the 40secs, my timing will be 1:13:30 which is so much better than last years 1:29.
Happy. But my left knee still hurts at this moment. I have a headache and I need to sleep early tonight. Tomorrow there is a management mtg. I better leave home early.
